KOMMUNIKATION MIT WRI:
Ladies and Gentlemen,
below you find a report of an alleged bug that I found in Mathematica.
Yours sincerely
Felix Klee
BUG REPORT:
I use Mathematica version 4.1 for Linux (November 9, 2000).
When I enter
Integrate[Abs[Abs[b]^2 Sin[x]]^2, {x, 0, Pi}]
then Mathematica returns
Pi * b^4 / 2
However, the correct result is
Pi * Abs[b]^4 / 2
This is not identical to the above result as can be seen by inserting
e.g. b = 1+I.
The problem seems to be that Mathematica interprets "b" as a real
valued vairable.
